Armed Men Storm Exxon Mobil Ship in Nigeria Delta |
Armed men attacked a ship docking at an Exxon Mobil oil platform in the Niger Delta, according to a statement released by the company Tuesday.
'We confirm that in the early hours of Monday ... armed men attacked a third party vessel near our facilities,' the statement said. 'We do not know the identity of the attackers, nor the reason for their action,' the statement said. It did not mention whether anyone was harmed during the attack. Monday's attack is the latest to target a foreign vessel in Nigeria's oil-rich Niger Delta. Last week, 20 sailors onboard the Marshall Islands-flagged Cape Bird were released after being held hostage about 90 miles off the coast of Lagos.
